Kahtina Robe offering ceremony at MTBS

You and your family, as well as everyone in our society, are cordially invited to join the Kahtina Robe Offering Ceremony on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at Surrey Monastery (MTBS). Kahtina robes will be donated to the six members of the Sangha, including Venerable Sayadaw U Sanda, on that day.  Two nuns will also witness the Kahtina Ceremony.

MTBS would also like to invite everyone who wants to be a donor in this event by donating $100 per family to cook food (Mont Hin Khar) and to purchase offerings for the Sangha on that day. Well-wishers could donate robe(s) for $50 per robe.  If you wish to donate $100 and/or some Kahtina robes, please e-transfer  to mtbs.surrey@gmail.com

We are going to have the Summer Food Fair on Sunday, August 10, 2025, between 11 am to 1 pm, at the MTBS (Surrey Monastery).

A SPECIAL DONATION:

Myanmar New Year 2025 – Seeking Volunteers

We are going to celebrate the Myanmar New Year with a Dhamma talk on Sunday, April 20, 2025, at the MTBS temple.  We are seeking volunteers to prepare Mote-hin-gar for the event on Saturday, April 12, 2025, from 10 am to 2 pm .  Please show up at the monastery on April 12, 2025, around 10 am if you are able to volunteer.  Lunch will be provided for volunteers on that day.

Ingyin and friends will generously donate (Mote-hin-gar) lunch to all attendees on April 20, 2025.

The Venerable Sayadaw will be accompanied by the Ven U Pyinyacekka as last year.

The venue will be at The Executive Suites and Inn.

Please indicate if you’re attending all three days or which day you’re attending.  You can still come if you didn’t indicate the day.

Come early as parking is limited.  The first 15 cars will get free parking for the day but you have to register at the reception.  If you leave early please remove your name so others can park.

For those coming on public transport, the nearest Skytrain station is Gilmore Station on the Millennium Line.  The next one is Brentwood Town Centre Station.

If you wish, you can bring dishes for Monks breakfast and lunch.  Breakfast is at 5:30am and lunch at 10:30am.

Lunch for Yogees is on your own.  We will inform you if this changes.  Strictly no outside food is allowed  inside the meditation hall and if you bring your own food you have to consume outside the hotel.  There are restaurants close by the hotel, Tim Hortons, Cactus Club and Whitespot.  The Amazing Brentwood Mall is a block away.

Sayadaw’s sermons will be broadcasted live on You Tube and Facebook.

Please bring your own cushions and/or blankets to make yourself as comfortable as possible for a long day of meditation.  It is a carpeted floor.  There will be a row of chairs at the back of the room for those who can’t sit on the floor for long periods.
