Summary of Dhamma talk for the Waso Robe offering ceremony

Sponsored by Ko Phone Tint and Ma Aung May Myat on July 21, 2019

One who is stingy or who never donates anything to anyone may not be reborn in one of six Devas planes. One who donates something to someone will never be reborn into a woeful life.

One day, our Lord Buddha goes out for a routine alms receiving in the street when people are struggling to survive. A man of the street asks him why he is asking for alms from the people who are poor now. Then, the Lord Buddha uses Dibba-cakkhu and see the past lives and rebirths of all beings. Then, the Lord Buddha replies to him that he never sees anyone who donates, being born poor.

The event, sponsored by Daw Ohnma Han and Dhamma friends is as follows:

There are four supporting causes to become a Sotapanna, a stream-entrant to Nibbana: -

  1. To associate with wise people;
  2. To listen to the wise people’s Dhamma;
  3. To have a right view at a right time; and
  4. To practice and see true Dhamma oneself.

Who are the wise people? They are the ones who think, say and do the right thing at the right time that will not harm others but will get others to admire and praise.

Sadhu! Sadhu!"

Summery of Vesak Day Celebrations – 2019

Summary of Venerable U Sanda’s Dhamma talk on May 12, 2019 to mark the Buddha (Vesak) day that was sponsored by Daw San Thawda Kyaing and family is:

  • Vesak Day 2019

There is a huge difference between Buddha’s physical body and his attributes and achievements. The physical body lived only 80 years but the attributes last much longer than anything else. They even outlast the life of the earth. Even after the earth perishes from our solar system, his attributes will still continue to live. The attributes include unlimited wisdom on nature, life and eternal peace; infinite teaching power to tame all beings and show them what is right and what is wrong, and even a path to eternal peace (Nibbana); unlimited supernatural power; and infinite compassion to all beings. Buddha has no defilement on whatever and whenever he sees, hears, touches, tastes, thinks and knows. It means that he is in complete equanimity when touches anything at all his six senses (doors): - he has no greed, hatred or delusion. We pay our respect most to those attributes that save millions of beings from the cycle of rebirths.

We, therefore, should not only envy what he did for all beings while he was alive but also do the best for the humanity while we are alive.

Vesak Day (Buddha Day) celebration

We will celebrate the Vesak Day (Buddha Day) on Sunday, May 12, 2019 at our temple. It is a very important day for all Buddhists around the world because it is the day when the Buddha-to-be was born, the day when the Buddha attained the Buddhahood and the day when the Buddha passed away from the Circle of Rebirth (reached Nibbana).Continue reading

Summery of Myanmar New Year Celebrations 2019

Summary of Venerable U Sanda’s Dhamma talk at Myanmar new year event on April 21, 2019 that was sponsored by Dr. Tun Zan Maung, Daw Khin Khin Oo and family:

Sadhu! Sadhu!

When a new year comes, we should reflect what we have done last year: whether we have accumulated merit (kuso), we have earned wealth, we have learned knowledge, we have kept in shape, we have improved our status or we have had a promotion at work.

However, we should not be arrogant for our achievements and accomplishments but we should use them wisely. We should bear in mind that the physical properties we have accumulated are common properties, not permanent personal properties because they may disappear one day by five causes: fire, government, water (flood), thief and someone or something who we don’t like.

If we don’t use them wisely that means we abuse them or attach to them extremely, we will be in trouble in this life and/or in the next existence (samsara). If so, they may become our enemies. Therefore, we should use them wisely: we use them for our benefits and others’. With them, we should do wholesome merits: donate some appropriately, take precepts, build our mental concentration, do insight mediation and learn empirical knowledge on Dhamma. Those merits of donation, moral, concentration, and insight empirical knowledge are our permanent properties that will follow us like a shadow in the samsara if we are reborn in the next life.
